Matt Orr has over a decade of communications and political experience at the local, state, and national level.
Orr served as Press Secretary at the South Carolina Republican Party under Chairman Matt Moore. At the state party, Orr ran a robust communications strategy, serving as an on-the-record spokesman and pitched stories to state and national media, which resulted in positive press during the historic 2014 statewide general election.
Prior to joining First Tuesday Strategies, he spent five years working in communications and public affairs under two statewide constitutional officers. His first stint in state government was at the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office as Public Affairs Assistant under Attorney General Alan Wilson. Orr worked directly with the Governmental Affairs Director to advance Attorney General Alan Wilson’s legislative agenda.
Most recently, Orr served as Public Information Officer in the Office of Communications at the South Carolina Department of Education under State Superintendent Molly Spearman. At the Department of Education, he directly managed the Department’s social media presence, coordinated internal and external communications, and served as agency liaison for various public-facing award programs.
Orr was raised in Great Falls, S.C and attended public schools in Chester County. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
